NB Plc Commissions Renovated Akerele Primary Health Care Centre
In line with its Winning with Nigeria corporate philosophy, Nigerian Breweries Plc., recently commissioned renovated facilities at Akerele Primary Health Care Center in Surulere, Lagos.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the facilities, the Corporate Affair Adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc., Mr. Kufre Ekanem, said the renovation was carried out by the company to improve the health care of patients by providing accessible and affordable facilities within their reach and impact on the welfare of residents in Surulere. According to him, as a company with its birthplace in Lagos, NB Plc has a massive footprint of corporate social responsibility projects which impact the wellbeing of the people in the state in different areas of life including education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, among others.
Welcoming guests to the facility, the Sole Administrator of Surulere Local Government, Mr. Sheriff Olawale Balogun, said, Nigeria Breweries has been a pillar of support to the residents of Surulere especially in health and education. According to him, “The project is just one of the numerous projects undertaken by Nigerian Breweries Plc to improve the life of the people Surulere.”
At the ceremony, the doctor in-charge of Akerele Primary Health Centre Care, Dr. Abidemi Shosanya expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Breweries Plc for the profound work done at the centre which included renovation of the general outpatient, child welfare and cold chain office and the maternity section.
In attendance at the event was the Majority Leader of House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila who commended NB Plc for the renovated facilities at the centre. He further solicited the support of the company in other areas impacting the lives of the people.
Nigerian Breweries Plc has over the years played a major role in improving the provision of health care in Lagos state. In 2012, the company partnered with the Heineken Africa Foundation to donate two units of dialysis equipment to the nephrology department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja. In September 2015, the company donated a fully-equipped accident and emergency centre at the Ikorodu General Hospital and a pediatric ward at the Agbala Health Center in Ikorodu. It also partnered with the Heineken Africa Foundation and the Learning Place Center in June 2016 to upscale the autism project in Nigeria. The project covered the training of medical professionals in the US on diagnosing autism, renovation and kitting of the classrooms as well as the upgrade of the Occupational therapy centres in Lekki and Maryland in Lagos State.
