Governor Fashola Commissions Nigerian Breweries Abebe Road Street Lights
Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) on Wednesday October 30, commissioned the Abebe Road Street Light project built by Nigerian Breweries Plc. The event which took place at the company’s corporate headquarters was attended by top government officials, management and staff of Nigerian Breweries and other invited guests, including the media.
Welcoming the governor and other guests at the event, the MD/CEO, Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde said the project was embarked upon as a corporate social responsibility initiative and in fulfillment of the promise made by the company’s management team when they paid a visit to his Excellency, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola in November 2012. He said Lagos occupies a special place in the history of Nigerian Breweries because it is the birth place of the company. As such, he said the company always strives to identify with the developmental aspirations of the government and people of Lagos State. According to him, the project is a demonstration of that commitment to Lagos State.
Mr. Vervelde thanked the Governor for the opportunity to demonstrate that commitment. He also thanked the Lagos State Electricity Board for partnering with the company to construct the project.
The General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board, Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi praised the efforts of Nigerian Breweries in constructing the street lights and called on other corporate organisations to emulate the good example of the company. She explained that the scheme is special in that the company did not just build and handover the project to the government but has made provision to independently power the lights at its own cost.
The project was commissioned by Engineer Taofeek Tijani, honourable commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources who represented the Executive Governor of the state. Also present at the commissioning was the Honourable commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, among other personalities.
