As part of efforts to contribute its quota to the development of education in Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries Plc recently donated a renovated block of classrooms to Igbobi College, Yaba.
At the ceremony to commission and handover the project, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Breweries Plc said the company decided to embark on the project to demonstrate its commitment to winning with Nigeria through the improvement of educational infrastructure in the country. The renovation project which was undertaken through the Nigerian Breweries/Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund (ETF) entailed refurbishment of the classrooms and library, replacement of the roof, floors, doors, windows, and donation of Books to the Library. The MD/CEO who was represented by Mr. Victor Famuyibo, an old boy of the school and Human Resource Director on Nigerian Breweries said “for Nigerian Breweries, Corporate Social Responsibility is not just a business ethic; it is having a vision beyond the doors of our company. It is about understanding the positive impact an enterprise can have on its local environment. We strive to champion causes that add value to the society because of our belief that businesses should be an integral part of the community where it operates. We are committed to Winning with Nigeria”.
Speaking earlier, the President of the Igbobi College Old Boys Association, ICOBA; Engineer Murphy Ipaye lauded the gesture of Nigerian Breweries in the donation to the school and urged the students to make good use of the facilities donated. He reiterated the importance of a good culture of maintenance in the development of education and counseled the students on the need to give back to society.
Principal of the school, Reverend Oludare Adeboyejo also expressed gratitude to Nigerian Breweries Plc. and called on all well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations to emulate the gesture by Nigerian Breweries Plc.
The renovated block of classroom was commissioned by Mrs. Omolara Ajayi, a member of the Governing board of Igbobi College who represented the chairman of the board. The event was attended by staff and students of the school, members of the Old Boys Association of the school, representatives of Nigerian Breweries Plc and journalists.
