UAC and Heineken sign a contract for incorporation of Nigerian Brewery limited in Lagos. (November)

1946

1957

1960

Nigerian Breweries voluntarily offers 10 per cent of its shares to Nigerians

1962

Nigerian Breweries obtains a franchise from Schweppes International to bottle its wide range of products;
Kaduna Brewery is commissioned. nbplc kaduna brewery

1964

Nigerian Breweries enters into a franchise agreement with Heineken & Co. to brew the Heineken lager locally in Nigeria. nbplc heineken

1965

Another franchise is obtained from L. Rose & Co. Limited to produce a range of squash drinks in Nigeria.

1966

Nigerian Breweries sets up a public relations unit to project a positive image of the company. nbplc public relations

1967

Gulder is born nbplc gulder man

1970

Nigerian Breweries’ Training School is established in Iganmu, Lagos. nbplc lagos training school

1971

Maltina is born. nbplc maltina

1976

The importation of Heineken beer is stopped

1977

The Company registers the sales of Green Sands Shandy. nbplc green sands shandy

1981

Ibadan Brewery is commissioned. nbplc ibadn brewery

1982

Nigerian Breweries enters into an agreement with Guinness (Nigeria) to promote the search for the cultivation of barley around Lake Chad basin.

1983

Rex Beer is introduced. nbplc rex beer

1985

Star news and NBL News, both company magazines, are changed respectively to Nibrew News after the company becomes Nigerian Breweries Plc.

1990

Legend Extra Stout is born. (June) nbplc legend extra stout

1992

Amstel Malta is introduced (November); nbplc amstel amalta Nigerian Breweries establishes a N100 million Education trust Fund for active participation in the funding of education.

1994

Maltina Fruity Variants (Strawberry and Exotic Fruits) officially launched. (September) nbplc maltina fruity Nigerian Breweries enters into yet another franchise with Cadbury Beverages International of the UK to re-introduce the Schweppes range.(December)

1996

Crush orange drink is added to the company’s stable.

1997

Nigerian Breweries wins the Diamond Award for Excellence in recognition of the outstanding performance in the bottling and marketing of the Schweppes range of carbonated soft drinks in Nigeria.

1998

Heineken introduces the Information System for Heineken Africa (ISHA), a high-speed upgrade of the existing Lotus Notes, predicated on a Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure.
Nigerian Breweries enters into a joint venture partnership with the French company, Perrier Vittel MT. (November).

1999

Utilises consumer relationship-building mega events as avenues for consolidating existing relationships through music. (Star Mega Jam & Star Trek) nbplc star mega jamz bus

90's

Nigerian Breweries becomes a subsidiary of Heineken.
Heineken takes over control of Nigerian Breweries;
Maltina with Pineapple is launched (July); Wins for the second time, the Africa Beer Award.
Foundation stone of Ama Brewery is laid by Governor Chimaroke nnamani, in Umuzeani Vilage, Udi Local Governement Area of Enugu State. (April)

2000

Nigerian Breweries sells its Schweppes franchise to the Nigerian Bottling Company. (August)
Wins for the second time, the PEARL (Performance, Earnings and Returns Leadership) Award. (September)
Named ‘Quoted Company of the Year’ bt the Nigerian Stock Exchange
Wins Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Merit Award; Leadership Watch Achievement Award
Wins Nigerian Conservation Award; the Company bids farewell to soft drinks Business.

2001

The new bottling line at Ibadan Brewery is commissioned; Nigerian Breweries team wins the Heineken World’s Business Challenge Award.

2002

President Obasanjo commissions Ama Brewery (October) nbplc ama brewery
Nigerian Breweries resumes export of its products
Total Production Management (TPM) programme is introduced in Lagos and Ibadan Breweries after it was first introduced in Ama Brewery.

2003

Ama brewery produces its first Heineken beer in small 33cl. Bottles. (June)
The large Heineken 60cl. Bottle is introduced.
Amstel Malta Box Office reality show is introduced. nbplc amstel box office
The National Reading Competition begins in about 20,000 schools nationwide. (September)

2004

Nigerian Breweries wins the trophy for Best Cost-Saving Company in the Heineken Group. Maltina Sip-It is launched.

2005

Enters into an agreement with the management of the National Arts Theatre in Lagos to refurbish part of its facilities. (August)
Gulder Max is introduced. (September)
Gulder Draught is introduced
Nigerian Breweries clocks 60. (November)

2006

The Company started producing some of its brands in Cans.

Sona Breweries was acquired bringing brand portfolio to 11.

2011

Nigerian Breweries merged with Consolidated Breweries; bringing brand portfolio to 19 brands and our SKU’s to 59.
Ace Passion launched

2014

Ace Roots launched.
